Marc Peter Keane was born and raised in New York. His work-hats include landscape architect, author and artist. He lived in Kyoto, Japan, for 18 years, designing gardens for private individuals, companies and temples. He began working on ceramics in the last few years, influenced by having his wife, Momoko’s Takeshita Keane's studio so close as well as by the qualities of nature he studied for his garden designs. His books include: Japanese Garden Design (an introduction to the culture and aesthetics of Japanese gardens) and The Art of Setting Stones (eight essays on the meaning of gardens) and Sakuteiki, Visions of the Japanese Garden which he co-authored with Jiro Takei.
