TAMA Interiors

TAMA Interiors is the interior design service provided by TAMA Gallery. The focus of TAMA Interiors is integrating high quality Asian furniture and objects into contemporary living space and workplace. The strength of TAMA Interiors is the ability of its principals to:

Listen carefully to the desires and needs of clients

This is the most important part of the project. We take our clients' desires and needs seriously and make them our desires and needs as well.

Assist clients in preparing a budget and timeline schedule for the entire project
A clear budget and realistic time schedule are essential to our working process. These documents are the blueprint by which TI and our client will agree to abide by.

Design a space with a strong sensibility of Asian design and style
Our experience tells us that clients come to TAMA Interiors because they have been to the Gallery and would like to see our aesthetic vision in their space.

Design custom made pieces from TAMA Gallery's collection of rare woods
The Scharlin Chafin Studio collection of tables, desks and consoles, exclusive to TAMA Gallery, have gained a steady roster of collectors since it began production in 2005. TI also has a list of lighting artists who work exclusively for our projects.

Manage the interiors project from beginning to end
We take a hands-on approach to management of all interiors projects.

Work collaboratively with professionals involved in the project
Architects, contractors, and artists are the usual collaborators of our projects.

The Principals

Lilia V. Villanueva is co-owner of TAMA Gallery and lead principal for TAMA Interiors. With her professional background as museum administrator and art curator, she provides the creative leadership in interior design and is responsible for national and international sourcing for antique and contemporary home furnishings and art objects. She has traveled extensively and continues to travel regularly in Asia and Europe to explore and expand the resources for TAMA Interiors. Her experience in art administration is key to her ability to run an organized and cost-effective project.

Craig Scharlin is the founder and co-owner of TAMA Gallery. He has over twenty years experience as purveyor of fine Asian furniture and objets dÕart based in Berkeley, California. Opening TAMA Gallery in New York City in Fall 2002 was a realization of his aesthetic vision and goal for a unique symbiosis of fine Asian antique furniture with high quality finishes and contemporary art and objects for the modern home. His collection of rare woods over the years has provided the trademark of Scharlin Chafin Studio tables. He is the primary buyer of key pieces for the TAMA Gallery collection.

Mary Ann Chafin is the head of conservation and restoration at TAMA Studio in Brooklyn, New York. She is the co-designer and master finisher of the newly launched Scharlin Chafin Studio line of tables. She is the color-meister for TAMA Interiors, and provides valuable technical support for all parts of the project.

Lanie Strahler is an interiors stylist and artist. Her home in TriBeCa was the first interiors laboratory for TAMA Interiors. Her sharp instinct and strict attention to detail on everything that has to do with space preparation is unparalleled.
